Parliament: a bill to reform the general provisions of the Penal Code is currently under scrutiny

The 372 article-rich text, summed up in 115 pages, was tabled by Government. This bill under scrutiny respects the original reform and numbering in the form of tomes, two in number.
Tome I relating to criminal law introduces two major innovations. These institute the criminal responsibility of corporate bodies and alternative sentences from imprisonment or fines.
Tome II, focused on crimes, offences and minor offences, incorporates some special laws.
Among them is the law relating to electoral offences. Given that the current Penal Code is more than 50 years old, this is an opportunity for Cameroon to adapt its legal arsenal to recent changes in the domain.
